Our Lost & Found Bin is Overflowing

If you have visited our brick-and-mortar building at 100 Main Street, in the last few years, you may have left something behind. Our Lost & Found Bin is overflowing!

We have coats, hats, gloves, a spare sock, sunglasses, sippy cups, a travel mug, a few hand made wooden and plastic bookmarks with first names, an empty key-chain pouch, and various and sundry trinkets and miscellanea.

If you have always wondered where that misplaced item disappeared to, please come and check at the Gilman Library. We would hate to discard your lost treasure.

Would you like Text Reminders?

Many of our patrons enjoy receiving text reminders such as

* Account expiration

* Impending due dates

* Reserves waiting to pick up

* Automatic renewal notices

* and Overdue notices.

You can sign up by logging into your account through the library catalog or just ask at the circulation desk for us to set it up for you.

Did you sign up for text reminders, then unexpectedly stopped receiving them?

Did you accidentally block texts or unintentionally unsubscribe from wanted reminders? We cannot restore this service from our system, but you can from your cell phone. If desired Text Messaging is blocked, using the cell phone listed on your account with us, just text "START" to 603-267-4302, to restore GABBIE messaging. Problem solved.

SIGN-UP FOR A LIBRARY CARD

You are welcome to apply for a library card in person or online. Both methods require you to come into the library with your photo identification and proof of residence in order to obtain a valid library card. FREE Cards are issued to Alton and Alton Bay residents and property owners. Year-round residents may sign up for free five-year memberships. Summer residents are eligible for free two-year memberships.

If you are not a resident, you may purchase an annual non-resident membership for $20 each year. Fees are waived for non-residents who are employed with an Alton business and for any students from neighboring towns, who attend Prospect Mountain. Please note that these courtesy cards become null and void if you leave your employment or when you graduate from high school.

SIGN UP HERE! ~ To initiate the process online, simply click the [SIGN-UP] tab in the upper-right corner by the [LOG-IN] tab. Please read the instructions carefully, as you complete the simple form. We will print it out after you bring in your documentation.

DO YOU NEED TO RENEW YOUR CARD? ~ Library cards do expire. If you need to renew, simply call the library and answer a few security questions, and we will be happy to renew it for you over the phone. You will keep your same account number!

DID YOU LOSE YOUR CARD? ~ If you misplaced your library card you may still use your library account. We are happy to look up your number, once we have verified your identity. If you would like a card reprinted, the replacement fee is $1.00.

WEATHER CLOSINGS

Please note that during the school year, if both Alton Central School AND Prospect Mountain High School are closed due to inclement weather, then the Gilman Library will also be closed. If the schools delay opening, then the Gilman Library will delay opening by 2 hours.

Safety is our highest concern. It is advisable to call ahead to confirm that we are open for the day. In unsafe weather, decisions are based on the safety of road conditions, snow clearance from our parking lot, and the safety of foot traffic on our walkways.

In extreme weather conditions, tune in to WMUR for updates regarding the library closing. In the event of a delayed opening, all morning programs are canceled. Please tune in to WMUR for updates.

Please check WMUR TV 9, or online at either

https://www.wmur.com/weather/closings or https://gilmanlibrary.org/calendar

for current postings.

If inclement weather and poor travel conditions occur in the evening, on a weekend, or on a school vacation day, the library may be closed, delay opening, or close early, at the discretion of the Library Director. In all cases of library weather closings, please check with WMUR for the latest updates.
